Members of The Club of Rome will be launching the Earth Humanity Coalition at a special session at the Sustainability Research + Innovation Congress 2024.
The Earth Humanity Coalition was established under the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (IDSSD), an initiative launched by the UN General Assembly in August 2023 and led by UNESCO. The Earth Humanity Coalition is a collaborative network uniting scientists, policymakers, and societal actors from diverse disciplines and regions. Its mission is to integrate natural, social, human, and applied sciences, along with traditional and indigenous knowledge systems, to tackle the existential challenges of the 21st century.
The session will discuss how the Earth Humanity Coalition is pioneering a vision where science not only responds to but also anticipates and shapes sustainable futures. By combining rigorous scientific methods with the insights of humanities and indigenous practices, the coalition fosters a transdisciplinary dialogue that enhances our understanding and management of ecological and social challenges. This approach aims to break down traditional silos in scholarly work, promoting justice-based frameworks and collaborative strategies to address issues such as climate change, ecological degradation, and social disparities.
This session, moderated by Carlos Alvarez Pereira, secretary-general of the Club of Rome, will focus on integrating scientific and humanistic approaches to address global sustainability challenges. Speakers include Paul Shrivastava, co-president of the Club of Rome, Lesley Green, member of the Club of Rome, and Gabriela Barreto Lemos.
