Webinar: Reimagining conservation and development in Africa
What if conservation and development in Africa were never in conflict, only made to seem that way? This webinar explores the themes of ‘Bridging the dichotomy: Reimagining conservation and development in Africa‘, the third discussion paper in The Fifth Element series.
Drawing on Ubuntu, communal leadership and the wisdom of the continent’s own traditions, the paper argues that the tension between protecting nature and advancing human wellbeing is not inevitable, but the product of a colonial-era rupture.
Together with Rica Viljoen, member of the Club of Rome and convener of the Centre of Human Emergence Africa, Edwin Tambara, Director of Global Leadership at the African Wildlife Foundation and Kaddu Kiwe Sebunya, Chief Executive Officer of the African Wildlife Foundation and member of the Club of Rome, we take a closer look at what an African-owned, regenerative model of progress could mean for policy, finance, youth leadership and governance across the continent.
