Promoting all sciences for an equitable wellbeing on a healthy planet

The proclamation of the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development 2024-2033 (IDSSD) is one of the main outcomes of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (2022-2023). This International Decade is put under the aegis of UNESCO. However, every citizen of the Planet aspiring to transform the way sciences and all knowledges are used to contribute to sustainable development is invited to take action. The Earth-Humanity Coalition (EHC) is the tool that will enable these transformations.

Together, all member organisations of EHC are fostering scientific research and knowledge production co-designed with society (which is also called “transdisciplinarity”). All sciences, basic, applied, natural, social, human, social, humanities and traditional knowledges must be mobilised in cooperation with all kinds of actors in society, in favor of sustainable development, for a better life of everybody on a healthy planet.

Sunlit rays fall across layered mountain ridges beneath dense cloud.

Especially, EHC will focus on the creation and networking of thousands of transdisciplinary hubs, all around the world, at a local, national, regional and global level. EHC will be a key player in the implementation of the IDSSD, in permanent coordination and synergy with UNESCO and a constellation of other partners.

    Members

All organisations involved in knowledge production and co-production for sustainability, and more generally all organisations wishing to develop sciences and knowledges practices in cooperation with society to concretely change the life of people, in an inclusive, equitable and sustainable way, are welcome to become members of The Earth-Humanity Coalition.

    Our current members:

    The Earth-Humanity Coalition goals

Co-create a worldwide network of thousands of hubs active at the local, national, and global levels to address the existential challenges facing humanity in the 21st century

Support the emergence of a new culture of wellbeing, grounded on leading edge science and traditional and local wisdom in which relationships, collective responsibility, equity and creativity are central to address the existential challenges facing humanity in the 21st century

Formulate in novel ways the questions critical for the overall goal of equitable wellbeing and habitability on a healthy planet

Our goal is both simple and ambitious : we want that our planet be a habitable place, for all living species, human and non-human, now and for future generations. To reach this goal, we aim to co-create a global network addressing 21st-century challenges through transformative and co-designed collaboration with scientists, artists, policymakers and citizens. We support a new wellbeing culture grounded in science and traditional wisdom, emphasising relationships, responsibility, and creativity. We aim to formulate critical questions for equitable wellbeing and habitability, reframe research and development agendas, and conceive practical instruments for sustainable development. There are manyb reasons to join: we need all hands on deck!

    TIME FOR ACTION IS NOW

Humanity is exposed to complex challenges, and the implementation of sustainable development in all its dimensions requires a more effective and inclusive approach based on synergistic cooperation of all sciences – basic and applied sciences as well as social and human sciences, including traditional knowledge – enabling the development of technology, innovation, and education.

The evidence-based methodologies and the models of operation and collaboration used in research can support policymakers in finding adequate responses to the present and future complex challenges, and open science can help in promoting and strengthening international cooperation.

Every organisation, anywhere in the world, can join the movement! If you have any questions, get in touch with us at enquiry@thefifthelement.earth
